I only met the previous principle once but I was told she was wonderful. And on our first and only meeting she lived up to my expectations. My child began AOL in 2cd grade. We have relocated and will not be returning for her 7th grade school year. I think this school like many others have issues. It is Father Walters job to evaluate the current principles' job performance. The bottom line is: Acedemically I had to hire a tutors in some areas that she was having problems in. I do think the teachers and Administration show blatant favoritism toward certain children who are children of teachers that teach there. Attend an awards banquet or presentation and you will see what I mean. Its the same kids that are honored over and over again. One of the reasons my husband and I chose AOL over SJA is this pagentry/ball thing that some think is so necessary to fund extra projects. That came to be after we had made our decison and our child was already enrolled. I did attend ONE of the Balls. The amount of money SPENT on this production could have and should have been spent on several smaller projects that a variety of children could have participated in. This ball was about who (out of a very small few) could raise the most money and sell the most stuff and who had the prettiest most expensive gowns. Does anyone remember that these are k-8th graders? They can do that in high school when it's more than about money. It's about team spirit and supporting each other. So, all these families who worked so hard for their 4th grader to achieve who knows what "status"... will have to do it all over again when the child get's into high school where it truely belongs? In the higher grades they know more about who they are. In elementary and middle school our children look at us to mirror proper behavior and what's right and what wrong. I don't think we served them well by putting on a pageant.
As I said we are not returning to AOL. We are moving into another parish. It will be interesting to see where my child fits in academically and if she has gotten the kind of education we payed for.
If my family were not relocating I probably would put my child back at AOL. She would only have 2 more years left. Most of the teachers are there for good and noble reasons. And they truely have a gift. I would suggest that religion and academics be the focus of our childrens' education... leave the fluff for high school.
